Physical DescriptionThis is an ax with a black metal head and a red-toned wooden handle. The ax head is engraved "To President Ronald Reagan 'Walk Proud,' 'Talk Loud,' Keep Choppin'... From Jim Wiegand Free Lance Philosopher Citizenship Day September 17, 1981". On the ax handle is a white sticker with a safety warning message.
Historical NoteJim Wiegand and his family brought the ax to to the White House gate to personally deliver their gift.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
