Historical NoteThis cartoon, by prolific political cartoonist Pat Oliphant, was published on June 22, 1981, after President Reagan pledged to nominate a woman to the Supreme Court. Sanda Day O'Connor would eventually be nominated on August 19, 1981 and was confirmed as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on September 21. Shewas sworn in September 25, 1981 and served until January 31, 2006.
Upon hearing Ronald Reagan enjoyed political cartoons, the Kiplinger Foundation gave the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library a collection of Oliphant cartoons that covered the range of President Reagan's administration, selected by Pat Oliphant.
