Physical DescriptionA sterling silver medallion commemorating the return of St. Stephen's Crown.
On the obverse of the coin is a bas relief of the Hungarian Coronation Regalia, including the Holy Crown of Hungary, also known as the Crown of Saint Stephen, the sceptre, the orb, the mantle, and the coronation sword. The side of the coin is stamped “AP 925”
The reverse of the coin is a bas relief of the building housing the Országgyűlés or National Assembly, the Hungarian Parliament. The text states “Budapest 1978.I.6.”

Historical NoteSilver medallion commemorating the return of St. Stephen's Crown to the people of Hungary in 1978. The Hungarian crown jewels were held in the United States in Fort Knox for safekeeping during most of the Cold War. The medal was given during a luncheon with Soviet immigrants in the Family Dining Room at the White House May 11, 1982.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
