Physical DescriptionA sculpture of a covered wagon made of wood, metal, and fabric. The text on the fabric cover states, “TRAIL BLAZIN' FOR TAX REFORM.”Historical NoteIt was given to President Reagan by then-Governor of Missouri John Ashcroft during a visit to the Santa-Cali-Gon Days Celebration in Independence, MO on September 2, 1985. Speaking on taxes, President Reagan said, "Now, tax reform has its enemies, especially among the people who have vested interests in the status quo. Status quo -- that's a Latin name for the mess that we're in with our present tax structure."
During the administration the wagon was kept in the office of James L. Hooley, the Director of Presidential Advance.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and was on display in the White House until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
