Physical DescriptionA commemorative medallion numbered 950 of 1000. The medallion's obverse features the image of three human figures in a boat looking towards the Statue of Liberty. The text on the obverse of the medallion states, "VNION FRANCO-AMÉRICAINE - / - STATVE COLOSSALE DE LA LIBERTÉ ÉCLAIRANT LE MONDE. 28 OCTOBRE 1886" and "O Roty." The verso of the medallion states "SOUVENIR DE L'INDÉPENDANCE AMÉRICAINE," "MONVMENT ERIGÉ PAR LA FRANCE ET L'AMÉRIQUE EN 'SOUVENIR DE LEVR ANCIENNE AMITIÉ," 'HAVTEVR DE - / - "LA STATVE: 46.8 m." on the left side, and "HAVTEVR DV PIÉDESTAL: 35m." on the right side (.02a). Also included with the is a navy leather case (.02b)..02b: 4 3/4 × 4 1/2 × 1 1/4 in. (4 3/4 × 4 1/2 × 1 1/4 in.)

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
