Physical DescriptionA dark green soapstone carved sculpture depicting a walrus standing on two flipper-like feet with a small bear clutching to its side.
Historical NoteDark green soapstone sculpture Walrus and Bear Cub, by Inuit artist Henry Evaluardjuk. It was a gift to President Reagan, given during the Reagans' state visit to Canada March 10-11, 1981. On March 10, President and Mrs. Reagan were the guests of the Prime Minister at a gala performance at the National Arts Centre and attended a State Dinner at Rideau Hall, the Governor General's residence in Ottowa. During the Reagan administration it was on display in the White House Residence, Grand Staircase Second Floor Landing.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and was on display in the White House until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
