Physical DescriptionAn 18 kt gold claddagh ring. The ring features two hands holding a heart with the crown on the top of it. The inside of the is inscribed "President Reagan Galway 1984."Historical Note18kt gold Claddagh ring. Inside it's engraved "President Reagan Galway 1984." It was given during a trip to Ireland June 1-4, 1984.
A Claddagh features two hands clasping a heart topped with a crown. It represents love, loyalty, and friendship. It has different meanings depending on which way it is worn and whether it faces the wearer or viewer. It often has been used as a wedding ring.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
