The statue has a wooden base with an attached presentation plaque with Italian text that reads: "AL PRESIDENTE DEGLI U.S.A. Ronald Reagan IL SEGRETARIO NAZIONALE DELLA DEMORAZIA CRISTIANA ON. FLAMINIO PICCOLI Febbraio 1981" [TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.A. RONALD REAGAN THE NATIONAL SECRETARY OF CHRISTIAN DEMOCRACY HON. FLAMINIO PICCOLI FEBRUARY 1981].Historical NoteBronze sculpture of twins Romulus and Remus, the mythical founders of Rome, and the she-wolf who cared for them. When their uncle King Amulius ordered them killed, the Roman god Tiberinus saved them and brought them to a cave at what is now Rome. Similar statues were recorded as being erected as far back as 300 BC.
This piece was given after Flaminio Piccoli's visit to Washington, DC February 17, 1981 for a meeting with Alexander Haig, the US Secretary of State.
