Physical DescriptionA handmade postcard features a collage of Sesame Street, industrial plant reptiles. The industrial plant is labeled "White House," and the pipes dumping into a river are labeled "Anderson, Reagan, Carter." The water is "Public." The reptiles are labeled "Taxes, unemployment, Iran, inflation, wars." The back of the postcard is inscribed, "Choosing Between the Lesser of the evils? With all of these threats polluting our public we should elect a person who will keep us from drowning."Historical NoteStudents at Fremont Ross High School in Fremont, OH made handmade postcards which they sent to the Reagan-Bush Committee during the election of 1980. These postcards have political themes such as the threat of nuclear war, democracy, Iran, the cost of gasoline, and taxes. Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
