Physical DescriptionA commemorative medal made of bronze. The text around the outside edge of the medal states, "THE AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO CHILDREN." At the center of the medal is an image depicting a woman in a long skirt holding an equal justice shield over children to protect them as the sun rises over mountains in the background. The back of the medal is engraved "PRESENTED TO MRS. NANCY REAGAN FOR EXCEPTIONAL WORK ON BEHALF OF AMERICA'S CHILDREN-THANKSGIVING DAY-NOVEMBER 26, 1981."

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
