Physical DescriptionThis purse is made of the two halves of a single large bivalve abalone mother-of-pearl seashell. The edges are trimmed in gold in a rope design, and a single round pearl is in the closure. The strap is made of a gold braid with a large tassel at the end. The inside is plain except for white braided laces attached to the inside edge.Historical NoteIt was given during a state visit September 16, 1982.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
