Physical DescriptionA portrait color photograph of Premier Zhao Ziyang with his head and shoulders visible against a dark green background. He is wearing a black collared robe with a button at the neck, a white shirt, and glasses. There is a large off-white border, and the photo is inscribed in Chinese on both sides. Verso is inscribed “Premier Zhao Ziyang of China” in black at the bottom center.
Historical NoteIt was given during a state visit of Zhao Ziyang, Premier of China and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, in January 1984.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
