Physical DescriptionA letter from President Herbert Hoover to the Historical Society of Licking County, April 30, 1955. On letterhead, "Herbert Hoover". Typed in black on off-white paper, the ink signature is in blue. Letter reads: "The Waldrof Astoria Towers New York, New York April 30, 1955 My dear, I want to thank you for your kind letter. The Historical Society of Licking County and the County Historical Societies around the country are making a valuable contribution to our way of life by keeping alive the traditions of freedom, the struggles, and the growth of their areas, which formed our great United States of America. Yours faithfully [signature Herbert Hoover]".
Historical NoteBeginning in December 1940, Herbert Hoover lived primarily in New York City. Home was Suite 31-A of the Waldorf Towers, a Park Avenue landmark. Here Hoover conducted a very productive post-Presidency. At the age of 86, he traveled 14,000 miles, delivered 20 speeches, and accepted many awards and citations.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
