Physical DescriptionAn oval brass buckle with the NATO/AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) logo. It has a border of small raised stars on the edges and a radiating design. There is a raised bas relief of an eagle with outstretched wings with an American flag design in the wings, a Boeing Sentry plane nose on, and lettered “E-3A” at the top, “SENTRY” at the bottom, and “ADM ©” in small letters to the right. The back has a logo and “ADM © AWARD DESIGN MEDALS INC. P.O. Box 1044 NORMAN, OKLA. 73070 SOLID BRASS” in raised letters. The back of the buckle has a pin closure.Historical NoteThe Boeing E-3 Sentry is an aircraft designed with an airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) system to detect planes and incoming missiles at long range. NATO had 18 E-3As built, receiving them beginning in January of 1982.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
