Physical DescriptionThis is a commemorative medallion for the Italian victory in the 1982 World Soccer Championship. It is made of silver with a gold overlay. It depicts a basrelief of a man carrying the Italian flag. The flag is red, white, and green and made with a combination of clay and enamels. The medallion was created by ASM, Bologna.Historical NoteThe medal was given during a private meeting between President Ronald Reagan and Giovanni Spadolini, the Prime Minister of Italy, in the Cabinet Room at the White House on November 3, 1982. Following the meeting, they continued their discussions during a luncheon in the Residence.
In the 1982 FIFA World Cup, held in Spain June 13-July 11, 1982, Italy defeated West Germany 3–1 in the final. It was Italy's third World Cup title, and the first since 1938.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
