Physical DescriptionA pen and ink cartoon. On the left side, President Ronald Reagan is sitting on a stool. He has written "2+2=4" on the wall to his left. At his feet is Punk, saying "quod erat demonstrandum" [QED "which was to be demonstrated"]. Reagan is looking over his shoulder at a man in a suit who is writing a complicated math equation that begins with "2+2=" over most of the wall. Across the bottom is the title "The Democratic alternative" in black. In the bottom left corner, it's signed by Pat Oliphant. The cartoon is matted in black and in a black frame with a gold inner border. The back is cardboard with cutouts for pop-up stands.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
