Physical DescriptionThe Order of the Ostrich award consists of a large off-white ostrich egg (.a), 6” in diameter, on a wooden stand with a brass plate (.b) lettered “Order of the Ostrich, President Ronald Reagan, Tulsa Zoo Development Inc.”Historical NoteIn 1982, James M. Inhoff, the mayor of Tulsa, OK, and Tulsa Zoo Development, Inc. named President Reagan as an honorary member of the Order of the Ostrich for declaring June as National Zoo and Aquarium Month. The egg was laid by Shirley the ostrich, a resident of the Tulsa Zoo.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
