Physical DescriptionA bronze oval-shaped belt buckle cast insignia of the Third Marine Division and lettered "Northern Training Area, Third Marine Division FMF." On the back of the belt buckle is a gold sticker with black text: "Buckles by Mike Made of Silicon Bronze In the U.S. of A." The gift was given on behalf of the marines and sailors of the Northern Training Area, Okinawa, Japan.Historical NoteIt was given on behalf of the Marines and Sailors of the Northern Training Area, Okinawa, Japan. The primary mission of the 3d Marine Division is to execute amphibious assault operations. They have been based at Camp Courtney, Okinawa since November 1969. The Jungle Warfare Training Center is located at Camp Gonsalves, Okinawa.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
