Physical DescriptionA glazed ceramic sculpture of a horse is done in the majolica and Tang styles. The horse's head is turned to the left. A brass plaque at the bottom states, "Salute To A Man Who Opened A New Chapter Of Our Nation's History, The Hon. Ronald Wilson Reagan President of the United States of America, From The Southern California Chinese Business Assn. 1981." The sculpture rests in a wood base and is glazed yellow, green, gold, blue, and tan colors throughout.
Historical NoteChinese Tang-dynasty style (618-907 AD) majolica glazed earthenware sculpture of a horse. The brass plaque at bottom states "Salute To A Man Who Opened a New Chapter of Our Nation's History, The Hon. Ronald Wilson Reagan President of the United States of America, From the Southern California Chinese Business Assn. 1981." It was presented during a meeting with representatives of the Southern California Businessmen's Association at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, CA on August 18,1981. During the administration the horse was on display in the White House Yellow Oval Room, where it can been seen in the background of a number of pictures. After President Reagan left office, he displayed the horse in his Bel Air home, until it was sent to the Library in 2011.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and was on display in the White House until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
