Physical DescriptionThis is an ornamental gorget made of brass with a red cord to go around the neck. The brass is engraved "PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN, COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, YORKTOWN REMEMBERED, 1781-1981, RMY 81, SOISSONNAIS REG." It bears the royal French arms, three fleur-de-lis, made out of silver-colored metal.
Historical NoteIt was presented on October 26, 1981, commemorating the American and French victory over the British in the last major battle of the American Revolution. The gifter is a 5th-generation descendant of Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, Comte de Rochambeau (1725-1807), the commander-in-chief of the French troops in America 1780-1781.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
