Historical NoteJ. Lawrence Lind had previously sculpted a bust of then-Gov. Reagan. In 1982 he was commissioned by the White House to paint an informal portrait of President Reagan. This painting hung in the White House during President Ronald Reagan's term in office.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and it was displayed in the White House until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
