Physical DescriptionA pair of steer horns, over 22" long, wrapped in leather and mounted on a wood plaque with the United States Gymnastics Federation logo. The bases of the horns are wrapped in brown leather, embossed with an alligator pattern, and held on with round silver metal suds. The center cylinder is wrapped in brown leather. The wood plaque has rounded edges at the top and notched corners at the bottom. Inset is an oval silver plaque or belt buckle, with a raised bas relief of the United States with two gymnasts in handstands, one enameled in blue uniform and one in a red leotard, and "U.S.G.F." at the top in raised letters. The plaque below has text stating "1982 UNITED STATES GYMNASTICS FEDERATION INTERNATIONAL INVITATION FORT WORTH, TEXAS" in black. The back has a hanging ring.
Historical NoteIt commemorated the 1982 international invitational competition in Fort Worth, TX, and was given to First Lady Nancy Reagan at a reception for Senate wives June 21, 1982.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
