Physical DescriptionA bronze medal celebrating the city of Versailles, France. On the obverse of the coin is an image at the top of the face of the sun with curly hair haloed by rays. To the left is the edge of a palace. On the right is a relief of a nude Venus with a wreath reclining, one arm on a Cupid who is blowing a small horn. Text around the edges states,"'*NEC PLURIBUS IMPAR*," which translates to "Not unequal to many."
On the verso are an image of the coat of arms of the city of Versailles in relief, a shield with the heads and wings of two roosters facing away from each other in the top third, and three fleurs-de-lis on a shaded background below. They are surmounted by a castle with three towers, each separated by a fleur-de-lis. Text stating “LA VILLE DE VERSAILLES.”Historical NoteThe medal was given by the mayor of Versailles when President Reagan visited France in June 2-7, 1982. On that trip, Reagan met with President François Mitterand in Paris and attended the G7 Summit in Versailles.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
