Physical DescriptionThe Key to the City of Franklin, KY, is a brass-plated skeleton key with an open cloverleaf handle. Inside, a round circle is etched “FRANKLIN KY.” Red, white, and purple ribbons are tied to the key.
Historical NoteThe key was presented to J. Steven Rhodes, the Special Assistant to the President for Intergovenment Affairs, by Councilman William Hughes in Los Angeles, CA in December 1982.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
