Physical DescriptionA paper press pass with text stating, "1983 SAN DIEGO PADRES BASEBALL CLUB EXTEND THE COURTESY OF SAN DIEGO JACK MURPHY STADIUM FOR ALL PADRE'S HOME GAMES, WORKING PRESS, GOOD FOR ADMITTANCE TO PRESS BOX-FIELD-CLUBHOUSE, RONALD REAGAN, PRESIDENT, UNITED STATES, NO.005, this pass is issued subject to conditions set forth on the back hereof, ENTER PRESS GATE - NOT TRANSFERABLE, SIGNED BY BALLARD SMITH, PRESIDENT." The text on the back of the card states, "This pass is issued subject to the condition, and by use of this pass each person admitted hereunder agrees that he will not transmit or aid in transmitting any report, description, account or reproduction of the baseball game or exhibition to which he is so admitted, except that he may transmit news reports of said baseball game or exhibition to the newspaper or press association represented by him for the sole purpose of publication of such news reports in the newspaper represented by him or publication in a newspapers subscribing for the service of the press association represented by him and for no other purpose. The holder assumes all risk and danger incidental to the Game of Baseball, whether occurring prior to, during or subsequent to, the actual playing of the game including specifically (but not exclusively) the danger of being injured by thrown bats and thrown or batted balls, and agrees that the Participating Clubs, their Agents and Players, are not liable for injuries resulting from such causes."
Historical NoteIn 1983, the San Diego Padres went 81-81. First baseman Steve Garvey set a Nation League record for playing 1207 consecutive games over a period from September 3, 1975, to July 29, 1983.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
