Physical DescriptionA key to the city of Los Angeles, CA, in a hinged wooden box. The key is a brass-colored skeleton-type key with a cloverleaf design on the end and a circle containing the seal of the County of Los Angeles in the center. It is mounted on a piece of polished petrified wood with a brass plaque etched with "THE HONORABLE RONALD REAGAN / PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES / Upon His Visit To The / County of Los Angeles / March 3, 1982 / Presented by / LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS / PETER F. SCHABARUM MICHAEL D. ANTONOVITCH DEANE DANA EDMOND D. EDELMAN KENNETH HAHN" below the key.
Historical NoteThe Key to the City of Los Angeles was presented at the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor’s Special Session at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion March 3, 1982 when President Reagan visited his home state, saying, “It's great to be back in California. Right now, I really wouldn't rather be in Philadelphia.”

It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
