Physical DescriptionA brass key to the city of Allentown, PA. The top has a raised basrelief of a keystone, an eagle head, an oil lamp, a ribbon etched with “1762 ALLENTOWN PENNA”, and branches. There is a single biting with a cutout heart inside and an enameled seal of the city above it. The back is flat and unadorned. The key (a) comes with a blue felt presentation bag and (b) has a flap and yellow stitching around the edges.Historical NoteKey to the City of Allentown, PA. It features the seal of Allentown, which was founded in 1762 by William Allen. Allentown was where the Liberty Bell was hidden from the British during the Revolutionary War. The key was given during the Republican Congressional Leadership reception March 18, 1982.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
