Physical DescriptionA round brass paperweight with text stating “LEAVENWORTH, THE FIRST CITY OF KANSAS, 1854, WHERE HISTORY OF THE WEST BEGAN.” At the center of the paperweight is an image of a wagon train.
Historical NoteThe paperweight was given when the gifter attended the State Dinner in honor of President Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq of Pakistan held on December 7, 1982. It on behalf of the people of Leavenworth, KS.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
