Physical DescriptionA rectangular brass belt buckle with a smooth edge and textured design. There is a raised relief of an oil rig on the left and a seashell lettered “SHELL” (the Shell Oil company logo) on the right. In the center is “RIG 12” in raised letters. A gold-tone metal loop and pin fastener are on the back. “SOILD BRASS BTS” is in raised letters on the back.
Historical NoteThe buckle was presented to James B. Edwards, who served as the United States Secretary of Energy from 1981-1982.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
