Physical DescriptionThis is a limited edition sculpture of a Rhea Americana bird. The body of the bird is made out of silver with crystal feathers. The base of the sculpture is a small plaque stating "GRUPO GAL 1493 880."Historical NotePresident Reagan visited Brazil December 1-2, 1682, where he attended a dinner hosted by Brazilian President João Baptista de Oliveira Figueiredo at the Palácio Itamaraty in Brasilia on the 1st, and met with American and Brazilian Businessmen at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes in São Paulo on the 2nd. He stayed overnight at the Palácio da Alvorada, the official residence of the President of Brazil. The sculpture, intended for Nancy Reagan, was given to President Reagan by First Lady of Brazil Dulce Figueiredo on that trip. The silver sculpture is of a Rhea Americana, a flightless bird found in South America. It is number 1493 of a limited edition made in July 1981 for the Grupo Gallery.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
