Physical DescriptionA brass-plated sculpture of an elephant mid stride with its trunk pointed downwards. The base of the sculpture is engraved "REPUBLICAN '48." Attached underneath the base is a paper label stating, "The elephant as the symbol of the Republican Party came from a cartoon by Thomas Nast. The cartoon was first published in Harper's Weekly in November of 1874. That was the first use of the elephant as the symbol of the Republican Party. Now, almost three-quarters of a century later, the Republican elephant leads the parade that will restore America to the American people - if we care enough."Additional Details
