Physical DescriptionA 14kt gold pendant in the form of a stylized eagle. The wings and tail are flat, while the head and talons stick out from the boy. The eagle is wearing a headdress. There is a ring on the top with a jump ring hanging on a chain. The back is engraved “14K” in the lower left corner.Historical NoteThe 14K gold eagle pendant is a reproduction of a Pre-Columbian artifact from the country of Costa Rica. The Chiriquí or Veraguas people of Costa Rica and Panama made gold pendants in the shape of eagles and other animals, using the lost-wax method.
It was a gift to the First Lady from the First Lady of Costa Rica, Doris Y. De Monge, on the occasion of President Reagan’s trip to Central America in December of 1982.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
