Physical DescriptionA pendant necklace made of metal with silver balls and small charms hanging from the chain. The charms look like human figures, three types of birds, and a four-legged animal. The pendant is made up of a large coin surrounded by smaller Guatemalan coins, with three human figures hanging off of it and two deer with leaves attached to the top. The image on the coin depicts Rafael Carrera, a cattle rustler, bandit, and guerrilla leader who later became the President of the Republic of Guatemala.Historical NoteThe jewelry was given when the Reagans visited a number of Central and South American countries, including Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Honduras from November 30-December 4, 1982.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
