Physical DescriptionA political cartoon about public waste. The cartoon takes place in a government office building with Federal Style architecture. There are three doors, labeled from nearest to farthest, “OFFICE OF THE BUREAUCRATIC PERPETUATION OF PUBLIC WASTE,” “OFFICE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PERPETUAL BUREAUCRATIC PERPETUATION,” and “OFFICE OF THE PERPETUATION OF THE AFORESAID.” One door has a triangular cornice above it and the other a rounded cornice, and both have “$” within. All of the people are wearing suits and Plains Native American headwear: singe feather, double feathers, or a feathered war bonnet.” There are in a state of panic and one man is rolling in a chair yelling. The cartoon is captioned on the bottom “The cowboy is coming! The cowboy is coming!” Punk says “UG - BIG DEAL! WE SCALP UM JUST LIKE LITTLE GEORGIA FELLA!” In the bottom right is “[Signature] Oliphant” and “© 1980 WASHINGTON STAR UNIVERSAL PRESS SYNDICATE.” The cartoon is laminated, and a cardboard stand is attached.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
