Physical DescriptionA wooden fruit bowl (.01b) with a wood block base with an attached bronze plaque (.01b). The inscription states, "Norfolk Island Pine Bowl Ronald Kent Artist Presented To President Ronald W. Reagan By The Republican Party of Hawaii April 23, 1984."Historical NoteThe bowl was given when President Ronald Reagan stopped in Hawaii en route to a trip to China on April 23, 1984. It was given by Patricia Saiki, the State Chair of the Republican Party of Hawaii at the Kahala Hilton Hotel.
Similar bowls by artist Ron Kent are also in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Met, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the American Craft Museum in New York. He makes the bowls by turning indigenous Hawaiian Norfolk Island pine until the walls are so thin they are almost translucent.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
