Physical DescriptionA hand-carved relief made up of multiple religious icons. The left side features the Penal Crucifix, followed by Templetenny Chalice, and the right side is the 1828 Parish Church of the Assumption in Ballyporeen. Grapevine detailing runs along the bottom of the relief carving. A scroll design sits below the carving with text stating, "from the parish of Templetenny now cailed Ballyporeen 3rd June 1984." A small silver plaque is embedded in the back of the relief and states, "irish oak carvings, This is a unique piece, hand crafted in solid Irish oak and signed by the master wood carver 35 SILCHESTER PARK, GLENAGEARY, CO. DUBLIN, IRELAND. TEL: 1804480."Historical NoteThe plaque was given to President Reagan by Danny Walsh on behalf of the people of Ballyporeen Parish during his trip to Ireland on June 4, 1984.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
