Physical DescriptionA wooden gaming chest. The hinged lid reveals a card game set in a wooden tray with red, white, and blue poker chips, a deck of cards, and green and white dice. There are two pull-out drawers with brass handles, one with a chess set and one with a backgammon set in the other. The lid is black, and the Sands Hotel logo is gold. The brass plaque inside the lid reads, "Mr. President. It is an honor to host your visit. The Staff & Management, Sands Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, October 29, 1982," with a gold sunburst at the top.Historical NoteThis chest contains everything one needs for a Vegas game night: chips, dice, dice cups, cards, chess board, and backgammon set. It was placed in President Reagan's hotel room for him when visited the Sands Hotel on a trip to Nevada October 29, 1982.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
