Physical DescriptionAn oversized ball made of different colors of yarn.Historical NoteThis ball of yarn is 16” in diameter and weighs in at 18 lbs. It was wound by the Rancho Peñasquitos Golden Age Club of Escondido, CA and sent to the President before the White House Conference on the Aging in 1981. This Conference has been held once every decade since its inception in 1950, under President Harry S Truman, and makes policy recommendations to the president and Congress regarding older Americans. The yarn ball is one of the most popular artifacts at the Library, and has been loaned out for display at other Presidential Libraries as well.Additional Details

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
