Helmut Josef Michael Kohl (b. April 3, 1930, Ludwigshafen, Germany; d. June 16, 2017, Ludwigshafen, Germany) served as Chancellor of West Germany from October 1982 to October 1990. In 1989, when the Berlin wall fell and with the political changes in East Germany, he created a plan for German reunification, which came to pass the following year. Kohl prevailed in the 1990 elections and became the Chancellor of all Germany, where he served until 1998.
