In red paint on the left side of the football is "19 University of Alabama 77," followed by black paint documenting the team's scores in that season's games " Ala 34 Olemiss 13, Ala 24 Neb 31, Ala 24 Vandy 12, Ala 18 GA 10, ALA 21 USC 20, Ala 24 Tenn 10, Ala 55 L'ville 6, Ala 37 Msu 7, Ala 24 Lsu 3, Ala 36, Miami 0, Ala 48 Aub 21, Sugar Bowl 1978' with the last section of text in red paint "SEC Champs," Followed by many signatures in black ink. Historical NoteFootball autographed by the University of Alabama 1977 football team, and commemorates the 1978 Sugar Bowl victory. The game was played January 2, 1978, and the final score was Alabama 35, Ohio State 6. Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
