Physical DescriptionA commemorative medal shaped like a stele made of 24kt gold plated sterling silver mounted on a translucent glass base. The obverse of the stele features the logo and text “cancún 1981” at the top, below this is “International meeting on cooperation and development” written in five languages including, spanish, arabic and chinese. On the back of the medal is a Pre-columbian scene of two seated figures surrounded by glyphs..Historical NoteThe stele was given during a trip to Cancún, Mexico, for the International Meeting on Cooperation and Development, held October 21-24, 1981.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
