Physical DescriptionA set of 2 20 lb dumbbells, chrome. They are inscribed “TO RONALD REAGAN ,A GREAT LEADER AND A GREAT AMERICAN, FROM GEORGE ALLEN, CHAIRMAN, P.C.P.F.S.(,PRESIDENT'S COUNCIL OF PHYSICAL FITNESS AND SPORTS) FEB. 2, 1982” on one dumbbell, and “STAY STRONG” on the other. They are enclosed in a velvet-lined mahogany & teakwood chest with brass fittings inlaid with “RR.” Plaque on the bottom lettered “MANUFACTURED BY WORLD CLASS GYM EQUIPMENT, 1911 BETMOR LANE ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA.”Chest: 15 1/2 × 12 × 7 in. Historical NoteOn February 2, 1982 signed Executive Order 12345 -- Physical Fitness and Sports which expanded the program for physical fitness and sports and continued the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The weights were given to President Reagan during a reception for The President's Council on Physical Fitness in the White House East Room by George Allen. Allen, who had been the Head Coach of the Los Angeles Rams and the Washington Redskins, was the National Chair of the PCPFS and the gift was given on behalf of the PCPFS.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
